Condition : Pristine.
Biography :
Painter of genre, portraits and flowers, born in Bologne, 1836 -1908, exhibited in Turin, Florence and Bologne. Bolognese genre painter Alfonso Savini earned an international reputation during the later nineteenth century with his richly coloured and meticulously detailed work. In this composition, the artist portrays a Neo-classical maiden, playing her Lyre. Despite the work's small scale, Savini successfully interweaves a complex compositional arrangement of objects and captures with exceptional skill, each sumptuous texture and surface whilst evoking a tranquil sensuality appropriate even by the stringent ethical standards of the Victorian era.
